WeBWork is an online homework assignment and quizzing system developed at the University of Rochester and is now in use at over 80 universities worldwide. The purpose of the system is to give students access to homework problems via the internet and then accept and grade solutions as they are submitted. Students are encouraged to seek out help from their TAs and professors in labs and tutorials as they work through their assignments.
The normal usage of the system would be:
Students are free to answer the questions in any order and at different times.
At the University of Calgary, the WeBWork home page can be found at http://math.ucalgary.ca/webwork and lists the courses presently using the system.
To log in to Webwork:
Note that your IT username is not the same as your eID. The username that you use to access Webwork will not contain a period like the one you use to access the portal (my.ucalgary.ca).
If you do not have an IT username, you can self-register for one at http://www.ucalgary.ca/it/register.
If you have forgotten your password, it can be reset at http://www.ucalgary.ca/it/forgot.
If you have registered late or transferred from another section, it may take up to 24 hours before you are added to the system. If it takes longer, contact your professor. Once logged in, you will see the following options on the left side of the page:
Do not use the change password feature. It will not update your password. If you wish to change your password, you can use the IT Password Change Utility.
In the main frame, you will see a list of assignments. You may click on an individual assignment to view the questions from that assignment. You can view a problem as many times as you would like without being required to answer the question. From this screen you can also download a hardcopy of the assignment. This will allow you to print a pdf version of your assignment, which you can then work on away from the computer.
Some problems might allow for more than one attempt as indicated within the individual question. However, rather than just taking guesses at the answers, you are encouraged to seek out help from fellow students, the continuous tutorial, your TA or your professor about the general concepts and then try to resolve the problem for yourself before submitting a new answer.
If you have any problems with the system, consult the Webwork FAQ.
Remember to start assignments early and Good Luck!!
