The Pacific Institute for the Mathematical Sciences is pleased to announce the creation of a new Collaborative Research Group (CRG), starting April 2012, called Optimization: Theory, Algorithms and Applications, lead by Yuriy Zinchenko, Department of Mathematics and Statistics, University of Calgary. This will bring the total number of PIMS CRGs with leaders at UCalgary to 4 in Spring 2012 -- no other PIMS site leads as many Collaborative Research Groups.  (PIMS has 8 sites in Canada and the U.S.: U.B.C., U. Alberta, U. Calgary, U. Regina, U. Saskatchewan, Simon Fraser U., U. Victoria, U. Washington. ) PIMS Collaborative Research Groups receive significant funding for a range of research activities, including post-doctoral fellowships, visitors and workshops. Please take a moment to congratulate Yuriy Zinchenko for his tremendous achievement.

Current PIMS Collaborative Research Groups at the University of Calgary:

L-functions and Number Theory. Leader: Matthew Greenberg. Principal Investigator at UCalgary: Clifton Cunningham. Participating Faculty at UCalgary: Mark Bauer, Renate Scheidler, Hugh Williams.

Mathematics of Quantum Information. Leader: Barry Sanders. Participating Faculty at UCalgary: David Feder, Gilad Gour, Peter Høyer, Alex Lvovsky, Christoph Simon, Wolfgang Tittel.

Applied and Computational Harmonic Analysis. Leader at UCalgary: Elena Braverman.

Dear Colleagues,
It is my great pleasure to announce on behalf of PIMS UCalgary that we have had another successful Collaborative Research Grant (CRG) application at the University of Calgary.
In addition to our existing groups:
L-functions and Number Theory (Leader: Greenberg. Principal Investigator at UC: Cunningham. Participating Faculty at UC: Bauer, Scheidler, Williams.)
Mathematics of Quantum Information (Leader: Sanders. Participating Faculty at UC: David Feder, Gilad Gour, Peter Høyer, Alex Lvovsky, Christoph Simon, Wolfgang Tittel.)
Applied and Computational Harmonic Analysis (Leader at UC: Braverman)
Next year we will also participate in:
Optimization: Theory, Algorithms and Applications (Leader at UC: Zinchenko)
No other PIMS site leads as many CRGs.  This is particularly significant as CRGs receive priority for PIMS programs, such as       post-doctoral fellows, workshops and conferences.  Please take a moment to congratulate Yuriy Z
Cheers,
Cl
