Kostant observed that classical mechanics on a symplectization
of a prequantum circle bundle over a phase space amounts to prequantized
mechanics on the original phase space. Here we extend this analogy,
showing that---roughly speaking---star-quantization on a symplectization
amounts to genuine quantization on the original phase space. (Joint work
