Application

• Director of Graduate Studies assigns Supervisors based upon student's proposed program
• Supervisor will appoint an Interim Advisor if on sabbatical or other leave of absence
• If appointed an Interim Advisor, a Supervisor MUST BE  appointed by 2nd annual registration
• Supervisory Committee (Doctoral only) is appointed within 3 months of Supervisor appointment and must consist of two other faculty members (where appropriate, one may be external to the student's department).

If your primary language is not English you MUST submit either:

• Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL), minimal requirement, 600 written-based, 100 internet based. Arrange to take TOEFL
• International English Language Testing System (IELTS), minimal requirement 7. Arrange to take IELTS
• MUST have completed and received a grade of  "B" on Level III of the English for Academic Purposes (EAP) program by the Department deadline for applications.   Arrange to register for EAP

• 3.00 (on a 4 point system) is required
• To calculate GPA, use last 2 years of Bachelors, all of Masters (do not split up a term)

3. transcripts and degree certificates if degree not shown as awarded on your transcript
4. three reference forms with reference letters printed on institutional letterhead
5. English Language Proficiency Test (if applicable)

• $130 CDN for International Students with a Study Permit

• Cheque/money order payable to University of Calgary, in CAN funds from a CAN bank or US funds from a US bank mailed to: Department of Mathematics and Statistics, MS 462, 2500 University Drive N.W., Calgary, AB, T2N 1N4, Canada
• If someone is paying for you - record your name on cheque or money order

• Complete on-line application using link above
• Applications are for admission in September of each year only
• The Applicaton process is a competition

• Referees (include Supervisor ) submit a Reference Letter & Reference Form to department
• Please make sure your referee signs the form and letter and puts their email address or phone number, since all references must be verified with the referee
• Referee can mail to University of Calgary, Department of Mathematics & Statistics, MS 462, 2500 University Drive N.W.

• Applicant arranges with their university Registrar to send transcript and degree certificates for ALL degrees directly to Department
• If transcripts and degree certificates are not in English, they must be accompanied with an official English translation. If not possible applicant arranges for a translation to be done
• applicants whose countries only issue transcripts and degree certificates once, must arrange to have copies certified by a lawyer

The student is notified via email and regular mail if accepted or not accepted.

If the student is accepted: (1)an offer letter is sent with a deadline to respond to gradapps@ucalgary.ca (2) Faculty of Graduate Studies (FGS) sends a final acceptance letter and acceptance form (3) student return acceptance form to FGS (4) Student contacts Department Graduate Studies office at gradapps@ucalgary.ca to arrange for orientation and to notify us when they are arriving
