GRADUATE STUDENT FUNDING

As part of your offer of admission you may be awarded a Graduate Assistant Teaching (GAT) appointment to provide teaching and instructional service for courses offered by the Department of Mathematics and Statistics. The funding offer will not exceed two years for a MSc program and four years for a PhD program.
  • The assigned responsibilites are generally 12 hours/ week including preparation, student contact, grading, and exam invigilation.
  • Thesis-based MSc students are generally offered funding Fall, Winter and Spring/Summer terms for the first two years of their progam.
  • Course-based MSc students are generally offered funding for Fall and Winter terms (no funding in the Spring/Summer term).
  • PhD students are generally offered funding for Fall, Winter and Spring/Summer terms for the first four years of their program.
  • Fall (September -December) and Winter (January- April) term GAT is $7,958/term.
  • Spring/Summer (May to August) term GAT is approximately $5,000. (A combination of teaching and research duties may be assigned).
  • Continuing students may be offered a combination of partial GAT funding and Faculty of Graduate Studies Scholarship (FGSS)  awarded for research tasks directly related to students to do their own research. The funding is equivalent to the GAT rate for the term.
  • Students are expected to maintain a satisfactory level of academic performance (GPA of 3.00),  as well as satisfactory performance in their duties as a Graduate Assistant Teacher in order to remain eligible for this funding.

Eric Milner Graduate Scholarship (information sheet)
This scholarship is to commemorate and honour the life of Eric Milner, who was devoted to mathematics and to sharing his knowledge with others. Please note the exact value of this scholarship is subject to change.

Open to candidates who at the time of tenure will be registered as full-time Master's of Doctoral Students in a graduate theses program in  the Department of Mathematics and Statistics at the University of Calgary and whose thesis is related to some aspect of mathematics. The successful candidate should have demonstrated not only expertise in mathematics but also a capacity to share this expertise with others, interacting with faculty members and other graduate students.

Graduate Award Application Guidelines and Application Form - Apply for all awards administered by the Faculty of Graduate Studies (Killam Pre-Doctoral Scholarship, Open Doctoral Scholarship, Special Awards, and Bursaries) on a single application form. Ensure that you read the guidelines carefully and make note of the deadline of February 1 for submission to the Graduate Program Administrator. You must meet the eligibility criteria for each award to which you are applying.
